Hupia is a terminal-based web browser that blends the old and the new to create a unique browsing experience.
hupia is a terminal-based web browser with retro soul and new-school tricks. If you like exploring, tweaking, or just bending the rules of how you use the web, this is for you. Run it in your favorite terminal, theme it your way, extend it with Lua, and use a little AI when you feel like cheating.
Web Browsing: Cruise the web right from your terminal, fast, light, and built with Zig.
Lua Scripting: Mod hupia to your heart’s content with custom scripts. Automate, theme, and hack away.
Image & Video Rendering: See images and video in ASCII art or your terminal colors. Set it how you like.
AI Integration:
Non-Conforming Design: For people who don’t just settle for “the way things are.”
RISC-V: Native support for this open, next-gen architecture.
In Taíno stories, the hupias were nighttime spirits, guides between worlds—just like this browser bridges the terminal and the modern web. We’re into search, hybridity, and breaking out of the ordinary. And honestly, the name just sounds cool at 2AM with a cup of coffee.
The library code is private, but you can download and use the latest pre-built binaries for free. Want to support the project? Donations help keep things running, but they're always optional.

Thanks to my brother for the “just build your own” challenge.
Zig for performance and keeping things weird.
This is a project for night owls, tinkerers, rebels, and curious minds. Terminal is home—let’s make the web fit in.
