hupia

hupia is a terminal-based web browser with retro soul and new-school tricks. If you like exploring, tweaking, or just bending the rules of how you use the web, this is for you. Run it in your favorite terminal, theme it your way, extend it with Lua, and use a little AI when you feel like cheating.

What’s With the Name?

In Taíno stories, the hupias were nighttime spirits, guides between worlds—just like this browser bridges the terminal and the modern web. We’re into search, hybridity, and breaking out of the ordinary. And honestly, the name just sounds cool at 2AM with a cup of coffee.

The Hupia Stack:

hupia: Main application, simple web browser
hupia-neuron: AI features (search, vision, and more)
hupia-chroma: Rendering engine (ASCII, terminal colors)
hupia-echo: Voice stuff (commands, speech)
hupia-core: Board support, core logic
hupia-sentinel: Parental control and video safety

The library code is private, but you can download and use the latest pre-built binaries for free. Want to support the project? Donations help keep things running, but they're always optional.

Getting Started

Clone the repo

git clone https://github.com/yourusername/hupia.git

Build it
```
cd hupia  
zig build
```
Run
```
./hupia
```

Configure rendering and AI in config.toml.
Lua scripts go in the scripts/ folder.
